Study Abroad or Exchange student?
The differences between a Study Abroad and an Exchange student.
Exchange students come to Leiden University as part of a reciprocal exchange programme. These programmes allow for the mutual exchange of students to and from Leiden University. Generally speaking, you will not need to pay tuition fees to Leiden University because you remain registered with your home university. If you are interested in taking part in an exchange programme you must be nominated by your home university.
If there is no exchange agreement between Leiden University and your home university, you can apply for a Study Abroad programme for one or two semesters instead. Leiden University charges tuition fees for these programmes.
